Why you should care
Flock adopts a reckless business model that prioritizes profits over security.
Invasive Technology
Flock's cameras save data on every car that passes them, not just ones related to investigations. This data is accessible on-demand across a nationwide network of law enforcement agencies. While local police can choose which departments to share with, what those departments do with your data is anybody's guess. So far, Flock's data has allowed bad police officers to stalk their exes, and track women seeking abortions.

Another proven use rogue police have for your data is sharing it with ICE. Despite having no contract with Flock, ICE has accessed its data thousands of times through sympathetic police departments. Even if your local police department says they don't cooperate with ICE, if they share with any departments that do, ICE can access their data. In Illinois, Flock themselves gave CBP access to state data without informing local authorities.

In 2025, Cybersecurity researcher Jon Gaines published a paper identifying over 50 security vulnerabilities in a selection of Flock's products. One flaw allows unauthorized access and control of Flock's most popular camera over Wi-Fi, simply by pressing a button on the unit in sequence. Flock has not responded meaningfully to this research.
