The invasive presence of Flock Safety's cameras is often justified by their supposed efficacy in fighting crime. Despite being capable of tracing the movements of millions of Americans, Flock and its clients insist the technology will never disrupt the lives of law-abiding people with nothing to hide, and will only ever be used sparingly to investigate the most "serious" crimes. How serious do you consider traffic infractions?
A list of Lakewood PD's outgoing Flock queries from March 2022 to January 2026 exists thanks to the efforts of HaveIBeenFlocked.com. This list comes from public records requests of several other departments across the country, such as Florence, KY and Dunwoody, GA, where Lakewood appears when making large searches across thousands of cameras on Flock's networks. Smaller searches such as those limited to cameras in Ohio, Cuyahoga county, or Lakewood itself likely do not show up in this list. As such, it should not be regarded as a comprehensive picture of Lakewood's Flock usage.
While the actual queries are often redacted, the logged reasons for them are not. One common reason cited by Lakewood PD, appearing over 600 times, is for "traffic" or "traffic infraction."
